Good stuff!
I do agree that discipleship is lived out in sharing LIFE with others, and not just 2 hours.
But even in the midst of that, small group has it’s place… something similar to what happened in Acts 18:26:
“He began to speak boldly in the synagogue, but when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him and explained to him the way of God more accurately.”
Our church definitely lives life together, and our college ministry, and even more intimately, my roommates and I. However, when you’re amongst the large group (the church) and notice a pattern in young adult females, or young courting couples falling to the same pattern of sin or bad habit.. it may not benefit the entire group to have a “Sunday sermon” on it… but instead, like Priscilla and Aquila, I would draw the specific demograhic group aside and “explain to them the way of God more accurately”…
When that starts to happen enough… you realize it may be beneficial to just set a time and place for that “small group” to come and tackle questions/issues they have in common.
And that’s all small groups are/should be. But small groups will become dangerous and detrimental when they become a substitute for “walking your faith in front of others as an example, and a willingness to pour your Spirit filled life into theirs as you teach them Biblical Truth.”
Thanks for writing this, I have passed it on to a couple people. Got to it from Twitter (.com/pH7vlogazine). Be blessed!
